The Lake House (***)
As I said in my last posting under Travel, Meredith and I actually had time to sit down and watch a movie together Sunday night. The movie was The Lake House with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. I am a movie fan, so I rarely watch a movie I don’t enjoy, and this was no exception. That said, it certainly isn’t a favorite. This was one of Meredith’s picks from NetFlix – you know, a chick-flick. I gave it 3 stars (out of 5). I thought the characters were played well enough, though I’ve never been a fan of Keanu Reeves’ acting, but the plot was a little goofy. This mailbox apparently has some kind of time-warp link to the past/present depending on your point of view. I’m a big fan of fantasy and sci-fi, but I need a better foundation – was it magic, was it somehow controlled by his dead mother, was there a tare in the fabric of time… Who Knows! The writers left us nothing. There were several aspects of this time-warp facet that were never dealt with. I suppose we were just supposed to overlook it in the face of this impossible romance between people who’ve never met (ok, well they did meet, kind of). Any way, I did have a subtle urge to spoon my wife after watching it, but I think it was Shohreh Aghdashloo’svoice. She is one of the hottest 56 year old women on screen, and that voice has a strange erotohypnotic quality. (Do you think I’ll get credit for coining a new word. I think erotohypnotic has the potential to become part of the popular lexicon. Wikipedia here I come…)
Check back often, I’m hoping to write one of these every time I watch a movie.
